Bablu (super Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan) an aspiring chef, works in a hotel restaurant where Sonia Kapoor (Juhi) works as banquet manager. His lookalike, Manu (also played by Shah Rukh Khan), is a gangster who robs a bank along with his friend (Gulshan Grover) but gets caught. He emerges from prison and discovers that his accomplice has double-crossed him. He murders his partner and escapes from the scene of the crime...but without the money. Bablu stumbles on the money and keeps it.

Manu's lover, Lily (Sonali Bendre), mistakes Bablu for Manu and spirits him away. Manu takes shelter in Bablu's house and realizes that he can use his looks to his advantage. The fun-ride starts as Bablu is constantly mistaken for Manu. With both Sonia and Lily after him, the law thinking him to be Manu, Bablu faces a tough time. Then Manu kidnaps Bibi (Farida Jalal), Bablu's mother and holds her hostage. It's all for laughs.
