Punks hear an inviting, rebel, atheist Dharma
Against the Stream: Buddhist Meditation Society, a lay Theravada Buddhist meditation center in Hollywood, turns five today.

To celebrate the occasion author and recovering addict Noah Levine -- son of Buddhist author Stephen Levine and student of Jack Kornfield -- will hold class tonight.

Wednesday nights are the regular group meditation and Q&A night in Hollywood, Mondays in Santa Monica. Levine had been teaching his version of the Dharma but in 2008 moved into a space of his own on Melrose Blvd., across the street from Los Angeles City College. Cake will be served.

Events this month include a Family Day, LA Food Bank volunteering, movie night, weekly Buddhist Recovery (as Levine works out his next book), a visit from Ven. Thanissaro, and the return to L.A. of Evan Brenner and John C. Reilly's play Buddha: A Fantastic Journey on Friday and Saturday (sliding scale).
