Hippies: Coachella, OLA, Dragon Tat (video)

Wisdom Quarterly; Los Angeles; ; ClevverMusic
Back during the American Fall, along [Arab] Spring Street, the West Coast equivalent of Woodstock took place. Opinion differs as to whether that was on the lawn of City Hall or at post-Coachella raves throughout the city (Marc Martin/LA Times). SEE SLIDESHOW

Occupy L.A. From Nightfall to Daybreak
An uncommon mix of people have squeezed into a motley tent city on the 1.7-acre lawn surrounding City Hall: young anarchists, old Marxists, out-of-work blue-collar workers, lawyers, teachers, and train-hoppers -- along with a rowdier element looking to drink beer and take drugs.

The camp’s proximity to Skid Row has drawn a sizable contingent of [invited] homeless.

The protesters pride themselves on being leaderless, but signs of social stratification have emerged. A section north of City Hall has attracted more mature protesters -- many of whom are employed -- and has been dubbed “Westwood” by one camper.

A thin grassy strip west of City Hall near the porta-potties, where homeless people congregate, is “Skid Row,” the camper added.

Coachella 2012 doubles size: Twin Weekends

Tickets are on sale now. At $285, get ready to go into more debt than Xmas shopping. The lineup for Coachella 2012 is out and Radiohead, David Guetta, the Buzzcocks, Dr. Dre, and Cat Power are surprises. It will be hard to organize a flash mob meditation now that the fest has grown 100% due to all the counterfeit tickets last year. It might be better to grow up, save up, and head for Burning Man instead.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
() Punks are apparently the new hippies. This American remake of the Swedish "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" follows a tatted, troubled, punk, lesbian motorcyclist investigating a murder.
